A cast, a world, and the distances between.
Describe a character, a place or an object once. Use it everywhere in the book.
The cast, in two ways.
Make a character, place, object, weather or organisation in Author itself, or link a profile from Geenius OS. A linked profile is a reference to a revision, so when it changes in the OS the cast says so. Author keeps a snapshot, so the book opens and checks without a network call.
- Roles: protagonist, antagonist, supporting, minor, narrator, setting, object, weather, organisation
- A profile gone from the OS stays as a snapshot, marked missing
- Choose which Geenius OS workspace the profiles come from
Maps with routes and distances.
Pin places on a picture or a drawing of your world and draw routes between them. A route has a distance and a mode, and gives the travel check its numbers. Without routes the check cannot judge how long a journey should take.
- Pin, unpin, route, draw
- Distances measured on the map, or given in kilometres
- Modes: walk, horse, bicycle, car, train, boat, plane
Honest note
Geenius OS is optional.
- Pre-betaProfiles from Geenius OS
Linking uses your Geenius OS account and a read-only permission for profiles. You can write a whole book without it.
- Pre-betaWorld maps
A feature of every plan.
Questions
About the cast.
Do I need Geenius OS?
No. Author is a standalone app with its own account and plans. A paid Geenius OS plan includes the matching Author plan. Geenius OS profiles are an option for your cast: you can also make characters, places and objects in Author itself.
Where does my cast come from?
Either you make a character, place, object, weather or organisation in Author, or you link a profile from Geenius OS. A linked profile is a reference to a revision; Author keeps a snapshot, so the book opens and checks without a network call.
What do maps do?
You pin places on a picture or drawing and draw routes with distances. The travel check uses the routes to judge whether a journey is possible in the time the story gives it.
